Angela’s film
Angela Christofilou, from Lancashire, England, and Athens, Greece, and based in London, works as a photographer, actor and voice-over artist.
She is a self-taught photographer, with a focus on protest, human rights, activism and the documentation and sharing of community stories. In 2023, Angela received the 'Portrait of Britain' award from the British Journal of Photography. Her recent book, "Church Bingo," published by Pendle Press, celebrates Heywood's elderly community spirit and fading cultural traditions in post-pandemic Britain.
In this film she shares about her love of connecting with people through photography and the magic she finds in the town of Heywood.
Over nearly a decade, Angela has created a large body of work in protest photography, being part of and supporting the communities and spaces she documents, including women's rights, lgbtqia+ rights, anti-racism, workers' rights, environmental justice, migrant justice, and more. The majority of this work is archived at the Bishopsgate Institute and her photography appears in exhibitions, books, magazines, newspapers, documentaries, and talks, engaging communities and youth, advocating photography's role in social change.
Speaking of her passion she says “Photography is my vehicle to connect with people”.
